Canada is a country of great distances this is one of the reasons why there is a high demand for truck drivers in Canada. If you are thinking of moving to work as a truck driver in Canada, Government Policies in Canada offer work visas to qualified foreign workers in the trucking industry. Everyday thousands of truck shipments are required to reach their destinations to fulfill the growing demand for goods with labor shortages; this is becoming a problem for companies. Many companies are looking to hire qualified foreigners and immigrants as truck drivers in Canada to become a truck driver in Canada.

The skilled worker stream in New Brunswick is for foreign nationals who have the necessary abilities, education, and job experience to contribute to the province’s economy. Candidates must meet the program’s minimal qualifying standards, have a legitimate job offer from a New Brunswick employer, and intend to live and work in the province indefinitely. This initiative will also assist New Brunswick firms who are unable to fill employment vacancies with a Canadian citizen or permanent resident by assisting them in recruiting foreign nationals and international graduates with talents in demand in the province. If you’re a truck driver, I feel you can at least come into one of these categories. I am aware that everybody eager to immigrate to Canada has an opportunity.

    New Brunswick

New Brunswick is now committed to recruiting and retaining well-qualified truck drivers as part of its temporary foreign worker stream, and is willing to support employers in their efforts to recruit temporary foreign workers wanting to move to Canada and reside in this province.

Now this program lies under the New Brunswick Provincial mini program which is also known as the NBPNG and they have specifically developed a pathway for truck drivers under NSC code 7511. Now under this program, Employers who are willing to hire international workers or international foreign workers have been urged to apply for the LMIA which is also known as the Labor Market Impact Assessment  which enables them to hire temporary foreign workers who are willing to immigrate to Canada and work, in this case truck drivers have been given an opportunity because before they were under the AIP which is the Atlantic Immigration Program but now it has been changed to the Provincial Nominee Programs so truck drivers are being advised to apply specifically under this pathway which is going to make it easier for them to be able to obtain offer letters directly from these employers who are eligible to hire international foreign workers and they will be able to later obtain permanent residence under this specific program. Now once the employer is satisfied that the driver can safely operate the heavy trucks and also meets the provincial eligibility requirements which also include the 6-months work experience, they can later go ahead and apply for the New Brunswick transport truck driver’s stream.

I recommend that you construct a one- or two-minute video of yourself driving a long haul truck or any of the trucks and attach it to your CV. It would go a great way toward demonstrating to the company that you are capable of driving large vehicles and have some experience, which would set you apart from the other applicants. So, if you are able to do so, please do so.

    Basic Requirements

o You must have a valid driver’s license and a spotless driving record.
o You will be subjected to a medical examination.
o You must additionally present a language test certificate demonstrating your proficiency in either the French or English languages.
o Secondary school graduation is normally necessary.
    o On-the-job training is available.
    o Straight-body trucks require a Class 3 or D license to operate.
o Driving long combination vehicles necessitates a Class 1 or a license.
o Drivers who operate vehicles with air brakes must have the air brake endorsement (Z).
o Drivers who transport hazardous materials or dangerous goods must have Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) accreditation.
o Additional licensing endorsement or certification may be required to drive articulated trucks.

While you may be required to obtain a driver’s license in Canada, there is also a temporary foreign worker program that allows foreign workers or new immigrants to start working for a Canadian employer right away. Some of the truck driving jobs in Canada in this article may require that you have post-secondary education or job-specific training to work as a truck driver in Canada. Some others do not require either an educational qualification or work experience to work as a truck driver in Canada.

People who want to work as a truck driver in Canada must apply through the temporary foreign worker program. This is the only method to get a job as a truck driver in Canada, and I’ll tell you why: you need a license to drive your truck in Canada, and this license must be a Canadian license. Of course, you’ll need your degree, license, and everything else we’ve discussed so far, but you’ll also need to obtain a license in Canada. So those are some of the benefits of visiting Canada. So, the most important criteria for any temporary foreign worker program are that you have a job offer. So you get a job offer from a Canadian company, then you get a work permit, and then you go to work for a while. We’ll go through a variety of programs in the provinces, but many of them will only let you work in that province for a few months (6 months to a year) to gain job experience, and then there will be a road to permanent residence that you may apply for after that. The process goes like this: you get a job offer, get a work visa, and then apply for (PR) Permanent Residence.

o English Testing (IELTS): you need your English testing or cell peep.

What Are The Programs That You Can Use To Immigrate As A Truck Driver?

MORE JOBS:  Barbers Needed At Nandani Beauty Salon in Waterloo, Ontario

We talked about provinces here in Canada. We have 10 provinces and 3 territories and not all provinces have a direct pathway for truck drivers. I will talk about 6 provinces that actually do have programs for truck drivers.

    • British Columbia

In British Columbia far west, they have an ASSAD program called the entry level and semi-skilled category and they have a pathway for truck drivers.

    Requirements

o You must have full-time work
o You must work there for 9 months before you can apply for a Permanent Residence
o You must show the requirements (such like certificates, license etc) for this work as we have previously discussed.
    • North Western Territories

They have a program called the Employer Driver Stream and this stream requires you to have a job offer and you must have worked for at least 6 months.

    • Yukon,

They have the Yukon Nominee Program under which they have the critical worker stream and you will need a job offer of course and for this province in Yukon actually, you do not need work experience. You just need a job offer so that is a very attractive program.

    • Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia are in the Maritimes so in the Maritime, we are talking about New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfound land in Labrador. They have the Atlantic Immigration Program and under the Atlantic Immigration Program, you can actually apply as a truck driver. Remember you will need a job offer from a designated employer. To get a job offer you must be qualified to be a truck driver. You must have met the work experience needed for that.

Nova Scotia has an occupation in demand program that you actually require a job offer and you do not need to have hard work experience in Nova Scotia. And of course you will need to be eligible for that class but for you to apply for (PR) Permanent Residence. Here you do not need that however, you need to be within the ages of 22 and 55. Before you are qualified for that job you must have the skills and the accreditation. You must meet the Language and you must show that you have proof of finances for you to live on while you settle.

    • New Brunswick

New Brunswick is also in the Maritimes and they also have under their skilled program. They have a pathway that is strictly for truck drivers.

    Requirements

The prerequisites there must be at least 2 years of work experience in the last 5 years, including 6 months in New Brunswick, as well as a job offer. A distinct license is used in each province. So, in New Brunswick, you’ll require a Class 1 license, as we discussed earlier. The job offer, of course, must be real. You must meet additional conditions in order to immigrate to New Brunswick. You should also familiarize yourself with their point system, which has an age bracket (22 and 55). The better your degree, the more points you earn in Language Education. And when it comes to work experience, the more you have, the more points you get. And the only work experience that counts for this class are from the last five years.

    • Ontario

They do have an in-demand skills stream and under that stream you can apply is a truck driver. So again, you must have that job offer and you must have worked in Ontario for 9 months.

    • Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan does have also a program under the SINP that is specifically for truck drivers. Again you must have had a job offer from an approved trucking company, and then once you get that job offer and you reside in Saskatchewan for 6 months then you will be able to apply for their nomination program.  The license that is needed is a Class 1a driving license and of course you must meet the language abilities. You must show your education credential assessments.
